Two men were arrested on felony cocaine possession charges Tuesday afternoon after a car chase on Grand Island that reportedly reached speeds of 100 mph.

Police said it was fortunate no one was injured in the car chase on West River Parkway, which ended about 2 p.m. when the suspects' car crashed into a median.

Arrested were:

The driver, identified as Dwandell T. Williams, 25, of Fifth Avenue, Niagara Falls.

His companion, Charles "Peanut" Miller, 45, of Ashland Avenue, Niagara Falls.

Law enforcement officials said the two men were subjects of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the state attorney general's Organized Crime Task Force and State Police. More than 4 pounds of cocaine was recovered.

State Police pulled over the car driven by Williams on West River, and at first the driver appeared to comply with the request, officials said.

"Then, as the troopers approached the car on foot, the driver took off," a police official said.

A chase ensued, with the driver twice running his car into a DEA agent's car, and at one point making a U-turn near Beaver Island State Park. No one was injured as the chase, which lasted about five minutes, ended with a crash into the median.

The two suspects are expected to appear today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie G. Foschio. A number of traffic charges are expected to be filed against Williams.
