Karen Figler - Community Service Person of the Year - 2009
Karen
Figler is a lifelong Grand Island resident.
With a strong commitment to her church and community, she has been happy
to serve in many capacities.
She
has been married to Rom Figler for 28 years and together, they support one
another in their service to the Grand Island Community. Her three sons,
Jonathan, Jeremy and Justin have also been called into service over the years to
help out with many projects and programs.
Karen
has taught Physical Education and health at St. Stephen’s school for 28 years
and has run “Karen’s Aerobics” exercise program on Grand Island for 30
years. Over the years, through her aerobics program, Karen has organized and
participated in many charitable programs, such as “Dance for Heart” with the
American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
Her
passion for her students, both young and old, makes it easy for her to strive to
make a difference in their lives.
Her
dedication to St. Stephen School provides for many opportunities to participate
in the Home School Association’s functions and fundraisers as a chairperson,
committee member and past vice president.
Her
love for her faith community at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church has
allowed her to serve in many programs that have enriched her life enormously.
Her
positive influence and upbeat personality make her a true ambassador to the Town
Of Grand Island.
