Jeanette N. Courey, active in civic, charitable groups

Jeanette N. Courey of Grand Island died Dec. 4 after being diagnosed with brain cancer while on a visit with family in California. She was 77.

Born Jeanette Delaney in Niagara Falls, Ont., she married Norman Courey, a physician, in 1953. In 1960, the couple moved to Grand Island, where they raised four children.

Mrs. Courey was involved in many civic and charitable activities. She served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood in Niagara Falls, and was past president of the women’s board of Deaconess Hospital. She was the Grand Island chairwoman for an American Cancer Society fundraising drive and was an active member of Buffalo’s 20th Century Club.

Her husband died in August.

She is survived by two sons, Albert and Mark; and a daughter, Jean.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a. m. Jan. 23 in St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 2587 Baseline Road.
