Hushpuppies

 

 

Ingredients:

1 cup cornmeal

1/2 cup flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

3/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup buttermilk

 

Method:

Preheat the fryer

In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well. Add the hot sauce and onions. Stir in the egg and buttermilk. Mix until fully incorporated. Fry 1 tablespoon of the batter at a time. Fry the hushpuppies for 2 to 3 minutes or until they are golden brown. Stirring constantly will ensure over-all browning. Remove from the oil and drain on a paper-lined plate.
