Maple Walnut Bars



1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon maple flavoring
1 egg
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1. Cream shortening and sugar; add maple flavoring and egg, beating well.
2. Sift flour with the salt and baking powder; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in raisins and chopped walnuts. Spread batter in a greased and floured 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool slightly before cutting into squares.

Makes about 16 squares
