Grand Island firm plans $9 million expansion

11/24/2004
Pharmaceutical company Fujisawa Healthcare plans a $9 million expansion on Grand Island, and plans to create 30 jobs in exchange for an allocation of low-cost hydropower from the New York Power Authority.

Illinois-based Fujisawa currently employs 109 people on Grand Island, and plans to add the new jobs over a three-year period.

The company says the planned expansion of its Staley Road manufacturing plant will allow it to produce two additional dermatological prescription medications for psoriasis.

Power Authority trustees approved an allocation of 700 kilowatts of "replacement power," which is offered to businesses within a 30-mile radius of the Niagara Power Project switchyard, in Niagara, Erie and Chautauqua counties.
