SOFTBALL: Peters, HR powers Vikings past Lockport
By John D’OnofrioLOCKPORT — Alex Peters socked a two-run home run
Tuesday, sparking the Lady Vikings of Grand Island past the Lockport Lady Lions,
10-3, topping Niagara Frontier League softball action.
“It was a low pitch. I’ve been working on hitting to right-centerfield all
winter,” said Peters, whose two-run blast was her second dinger of the year.
She hit her other HR against Wilson in a non-league contest.
Peters finished with two more hits, including a double, and five RBIs for Grand
island, which improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the NFL.
Leanna Kozlowski and Emily Thompson each went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in
a pair of runs for the Lady Vikings, who scored three runs in the first and
added three in the third and three in the fourth.
“We got off on the right foot. It was a good team effort,” Peters said.
Winning pitcher Amber Hultgren posted six strikeouts and allowed just one earned
run. Shari Geblein added two hits and scored two runs.
Head coach Julie Kwoka’s Lady Lions were led by Hannah Hall, who went 3-for-4
at the plate with a double and a run scored.
“We swung the bats tonight and made contact on some good pitches and scored
some runs,” Kwoka said.
Also for Lockport (2-7, 0-4), steady first baseman Sam Disinger went 2-for-4
with a triple and a run scored. Disinger’s three-bagger was the key hit in a
three-run third inning for the blue and gold.
Sophomore catcher Chelsea McKenna played a strong game behind the plate for LHS.
