3-Depew 3, 14-Grand Island 2 (9 inn.)
Sam Tilkins threw a complete game, giving up five hits and striking out seven, for the Vikings in the Class A pre-quarterfinal loss. Emily Thompson, Korin Frantz and Ashley McRae had two hits apiece for GI (5-10 overall), which out-hit Depew 10-5. McRae and Frantz scored the lone runs for GI.
“I thought we played a phenomenal game,” Grand Island coach Pat Lester said. “I couldn’t have been more proud of my girls.”
In the bottom of the ninth, Depew’s Alexis Wayne walked, was bunted over to second and was brought in as the winning run on a single.

The Grand Island High School Varsity Vikings Baseball team defeated Cheektowaga 6-4 on Monday, June 1 and earned their way to the Class A finals. The game against Albion will be played Thursday, June 4th at 7p.m. at Coca-Cola Field, formerly Dunn Tire Park. Tickets are $5.00 and fans are asked to enter through the Pettibone entrance.
