HS FOOTBALL: Baker, Dlugosz named all-state
Staff ReportGrand Island senior linebacker Brett Dlugosz and Wilson senior wide
receiver Ethan Baker were named first team all-state by the New York State
Sportswriter’s Association on Wednesday.
Dlugosz, the Niagara Gazette CRUNCH Player of Year, was a member of the Class A
first team defense. He notched a team-high 114 tackles, while paving the way at
fullback for Connolly Cup finalist Andy LaLonde. He also led the Vikings to the
Section VI Class A championship game after an 0-3 start to the season.
Baker, a first team Niagara Gazette CRUNCH selection, was a member of the Class
C first team offense. He caught 36 passes for 680 yards and six touchdowns this
past fall. The four-year varsity player finished as the school’s career leader
in catches (103), receiving yards (1,689) and receiving touchdowns (17).
State champion North Tonawanda had six players named to the Class AA honor roll.
Senior offensive lineman Kyle Shreve and senior defensive back Darrik Bloomfield
were first team selections. Junior running back Joe Montesanti and senior
linebacker Steve Kijowski were second team picks, while senior offensive lineman
Casey Shreve was a fourth team choice and junior linebacker Travis Charsley was
named to the fifth team.
Lockport’s record-setting senior tailback David Fluellen, who made a verbal
commitment to Toledo last month, was a first team selection in Class AA.
Teammate Luke Rankie picked up fifth team honors for his work as a linebacker
during his senior season.
Lockport native Matt Rosenhahn, a senior defensive back at St. Joe’s, was a
third team Class AA choice.
Medina senior defensive back Levi Pace was a third team pick in Class B.
