HS ROUNDUP (Sept. 27): Grand Island erupts in win over Flames
Staff ReportsA year after being upset by Williamsville East, the Grand Island
Vikings were out to make sure a similar result didn’t happen Saturday
afternoon at Masters Field. GI (3-1 overall, 2-1 Class A North) scored all of
its points in the opening half en route to a 47-0 Class A North thrashing of the
visiting Flames (1-3, 0-3).
“We were looking forward to a good ballgame, but we got out to a real quick
start and the kids began to play with a lot of confidence after that,” GI
coach Dean Santorio said. “We did a great job of executing on both sides of
the ball.”
Senior wide receiver Alex Neutz caught three first-quarter touchdown passes and
finished with four catches for 137 yards. Joe Oliverio was 4-of-6 for 97 yards
and two TDs, while Klock went 2-of-3 for 44 yards and a TD.
On the ground, Eddie Weiser ran it 10 times for 147 yards and two TDs. Andy
LaLonde added five carries for 49 yards and a TD. Defensively, Adam Helman had
six tackles and a sack. The Vikings defense allowed only one first down in the
first two quarters.
