Viking Boys Win 10-7 Over Lew-Port
In Niagara Frontier League play the Varsity Vikings ball team, lead by Joe Podlucky and Brad Wood, beat Lew-Port 10-7. Credit for the win of the opening game of the season goes to three runs apiece by Podlucky and Wood.
High School Track Team - 2003
The Grand Island High School boys track team competed Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the 25th WNY Relays, sponsored by Fleet Feet/Brooks and held at JFK High School. In large school competition Grand Island took 2nd in the 4x100 (47.03) behind Lockport (46.01). In the Sprint medley Sweet Home was first (3:42.17), St. Francis took second (3:42.20) and Grand Island was third (3:48.09). Grand Island was second (36-61/4) behind Lockport (36-91/2) in the Long jump relay, and second in the High jump relay (6-2) with Lockport taking first (6-4). Grand Island had a first in Pole vault relay(20-6)
and a third in 3000m steeplechase (10:37.90) behind Frontier (10:29.85).
The Grand Island High School girls track team also competed in the 25th WNY Relays winning the 4x100 (50-30) with Sweet Home in 2nd place (51.80) and Starpoint in third (52.87). The Grand Island girls took 2nd in the 4x200 (1:51.22) behind Sweet Home in first with 1:49.81. Grand Island girls were third in Distance medley with a score of 14.47.51 behind 1st place Lancaster (13:33.36) and 2nd place Lockport (14.19.23). In the Discus relay Starpoint (98-7) was first, Grand Island (81-6) was second and Lockport (81-3) third. Other wins for the Grand Island girls were:

High jump relay: first place (9-6)
Triple jump relay: first (32-93/4)
2000 steeplchase: second (8:23.78)
Baseball - Grand Island 6 - Lew-Port 4
The Grand Island Vikings Baseball Team improved to a 3-0 in Niagara Frontier League play Monday, April 28, 2003 beating Lew-Port 6-4. Star pitcher was Mike DiSarno, pitching a complete game five hitter and striking out 13. Ryan Jankowski and Rick Ianni had two hits each for Grand Island. Later in the week Grand Island lost to North Tonawanda 2-0.
Tennis - Grand Island Beats North Tonawanda In Opener 4-1
Marc Scibilia and Steven Beatty were the winners of the singles matches in the Vikings first Niagara Frontier League tennis match of the 2003 season against North Tonawanda. The Vikings doubles teams of Jon Crossley and Steve Kopf, and Drew Armusewicz and Matt Fields won the doubles matches. The boys went on to beat Lew-Port 5-0.
Girls Track Team Beats Niagara Wheatfield 96-45
The Grand Island Girls Track Team trampled the Niagara Wheatfield girls on the Ransom Road track Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in Niagara Frontier League competition. Final score was 96-45. Kara Black won the 100 in 12.9 and the 200 in 26.2. Erica Burns won the Long Jump (15-83/4) and the Triple Jump (34-9). Tina Coates won the Shot Put (27-7) and Discus (89-3).
Vikings Boys Track Team Triumphs Over Niagara Wheatfield 117-24
Grand Island's Kevin Buzzelli was victorious in the 1600 (4:57) and the 3200 (10:41) in the Niagara Frontier League track meet April 29, 2003 as the Vikings tounced the Niagara Wheatfield boys track team with a final score of 117-24. Other Viking winners were Chris Sica who won the 100 (11.7), the 200 (23.5) and the 400 (52.2) and Mike Feathers in Shot Put (43-111/2), 110 hurdles (15.9) and the High Jump (6-2).
