Elisabeth Lupp "Artist of the Month" - Dec. 2011

The Grand Island Art Department is proud to announce that the "Artist of the Month" is Elisabeth Lupp. Elisabeth is a fifth grade student at Huth Road Elementary. She is a member of the after school Art Club and has been drawing since she was very young. Elisabeth takes pride in her work which is always done nicely with careful craftsmanship. She enjoys working three-dimensionally in clay the best, although, she is very talented in a variety of art materials. Elisabeth likes to doodle at home and favors portraits and realistic art. She has a couple of very talented aunts in her family that inspire her to do her best. We wish her continued success in the Middle School.

Gianna Novelli "Artist of the Month" - June 2011

The Grand Island Art Department would like to congratulate Gianna Novelli as the recipient of the K-12 “Artist of the Month.” Gianna is a fifth grader at Huth Road Elementary. She is a member of the art club and has enjoyed art since she was very young. She works very hard on her projects and likes to draw realistic from pictures. Gianna finds Vincent van Gogh to be an interesting artist. She enjoys his painterly style and the way his brush strokes pop off the canvas. One of her favorite paintings is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo daVinci. Gianna would like to aspire to be an art teacher. She has a lot of encouragement from home as well as from her art teacher. It will be so nice to see her flourish in the middle school. We wish her continued success.

Author Visits Huth, Kaegebein - April 2011

See Kaegebein Students.
See Huth Road Students.
Kaegebein and Huth Road Elementary schools had the privilege of hosting award winning author, Cynthia DeFelice on April 4th and 5th. DeFelice is the author of over 25 books for young readers, including novels and picture books. In preparation for her visit, students learned about her life and were exposed to her books, in the library and in the classroom.
During her visit, she spoke to the students about where ideas come from and how those ideas can be turned into stories. All of the students experienced first hand a writer's gift and gained a greater understanding of the writing process. DeFelice shared how she became an author and described her goal of writing books that she would have loved to read as a child. A group of students at each school had the opportunity to attend a special author luncheon in the library with Cynthia DeFelice.
This program was a joint venture between the schools' PTAs and the Grand Island Central School District. Author visits focus on literacy by putting reading and writing in the spotlight. Students were made aware of their own creative potential as authors and came away from DeFelice's visit excited to immerse themselves in new literary experiences.

Arthur Meaney "Artist of the Month" - January 2011

The Grand Island Art Department proudly announces Arthur Meaney as the "Artist of the Month" for December. Arthur is a fifth grader at Huth Road Elementary. He became interested in art as early as first grade. He remembers what it was like to create art back at Sidway Elementary. Arthur still takes pride in his work and creates exceptional projects. His work is always neatly done and very well thought out. He prefers to work two-dimensionally in pencil and likes to draw in his free time. You will often see his favorite colors, blue and green, incorporated in his work. There is no doubt that Arthur has a great future ahead with his involvement in school and his dedication.
