Strengths: Largest veterans organization in the world
Ideas: The many veterans living on Grand Island are a great untapped source of community involvement. They should be encouraged to help the various programs in the town.

    The American Legion Post 1346 joined the members of the VFW at the 72nd annual Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Service at the Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Post # 9249, Veterans of Foreign Wars, on December 7, 2013. Guest speaker for the event was Supervisor Mary Cooke and 2nd Vice Commander Chris Eshelman spoke a few remarks on Pearl Harbor Veterans and present day Veterans. This is an annual event and everyone is welcome to attend.




Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Service - December 2013

   The annual Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Service will be held at the Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Post # 9249, Veterans of Foreign Wars, December 7, 2013 at 12 Noon, at the Post Flag, 2121 Grand Island Blvd. Grand Island, New York. All are welcome to participate in this Memorial to the Heroes of Pearl Harbor, the Philippines and Pacific Islands on this day. Remember Pearl Harbor!




Meeting Location Change - November 2013

The Grand Island Post #1346, American Legion, will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the meeting room of the GI Recreation Community Room at the Nike Base on Whitehaven Road. This is the last meeting of the year 2013. The December meeting is cancelled because meeting date falls on Christmas Day. There will be a Christmas Get Together (Party) on December 15, 2013 at the Moose Meeting Rooms, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please join us and spread the Joy of Christmas. Must sign up at the November Meeting for head count. All Members are URGED to attend. A reminder that DUES for 2014 are being raised by $5.00. You can save by submitting dues before December 5, 2013. Adjutant must have time to process dues to NY Department.




American Legion Membership Month Proclamation - November 2013

The Grand Island Town Board named November as "American Legion Membership Month", and urges all eligible veterans and service members to join the Grand Island Post #1346 during the month-long membership drive. Commander Fred Wornick announced at the meeting that the membership year 2012-2013, Grand Island Post #1346 finished first in Erie county for recruiting new members and had the highest percentage of renewing existing members. Erie county has 40 American Legion Posts and they plan on finishing first again. It was accomplished by the hard work of all their officers.




To All Veterans and Members - September 2013

The Grand Island Post #1346, American Legion will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in the meeting room of the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #180. A guest speaker, Sam Feaster, from the VA Public Affairs office will be there. Every Veteran is welcome to to attend and does not have to be a Member of the Legion. Join your fellow Legionnaires in serving the community.




American Legion Poppy Sale – Sept. 2013

In commemoration of the attacks on 9-11-2001, the Grand Island American Legion Post #1346 will hold its Annual Poppy Drive on Friday and Saturday September 6th and 7th, 2013. Funds from this Drive will be used for various Veterans' projects at the VA Hospital and Local Charitable Causes. THANK YOU for your DONATION. Donations will be collected at Tops Friendly Markets, First Niagara Bank and M&T Bank.




To All Veterans and Members - July 2013

The Grand Island Post #1346, American Legion will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in the meeting room of the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #180. A guest speaker, Robert Healy, the Veteran's Service Coordinator from Niagara University will speak and answer questions on the benefits veterans have earned while serving in the Armed Forces. Every Veteran is welcome to to attend and does not have to be a Member of the Legion. The annual picnic will be discussed and your input is important, PLEASE ATTEND !!! Join your fellow Legionnaires in serving the community.

    The GI American Legion Post#1346 donated $1000 to the VA Hospital Patients fund on Friday, June 19th . The money was raised by raffling a planter during the annual flower sale in May.

Kevin Freedman and Boy's State Chairman Patrick Soos

GI American Legion Post #1346 chose GI High School Junior Kevin Freedman as this years candidate for the American Legion's Boy's State. At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.

   The Grand Island Post # 1346, American Legion hosted its "Annual Mothers Day Hanging Basket Flower Sale" on Friday and Saturday, May 10th and 11th, 2013, at the parking lot of The Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Post # 9249. Even through brisk and wet weather, the plants were snapped up by fans. Hy-Way Gardens of Amherst donated a beautiful container garden that was won by Pat Harms of Grand Island. The proceeds from the container garden will go to the VA Hospital Patients Wish List Fund. The Officers and Members of the Grand Island Post 1346 American Legion wish to thank, all who supported the Mothers Day Hanging Basket Fund Raiser. The funds raised will be used to help Local Veterans and Community Projects

DeGlopper Memorial Post # 9249, 2121 Grand Island Blvd. The plants will be sold from 8:00 a.m. until they are gone. Please support this fundraiser for the benefit of Veterans and Local Community Projects. Thank You for your support! Raffle Tickets for a Beautiful Half Barrel Planter will also be available. Drawing date to be announced. Planter will be on display.
