Strengths: Largest veterans organization in the world.
Ideas: The many veterans living on Grand Island are a great untapped source of community involvement. They are encouraged to help the various programs in the town.

Joe/John Synakowski was chosen as Erie County Fair Veteran of the Day for August 17, 2021. Joe served in the Army as a Private First Class from 1945-1948. Joe/John has been a very active member of the American Legion for 47 years, raising funds to help veterans and educating others about the sacrifices made by our military. He uses his brother Joe's birth year that was three years earlier than his own to enter the Army in 1945 when he was 15 years old. Joe/John served here at home and in Europe as a member of the 82nd Airborne and the 301st Military Intelligence Unit. He was an interpreter in the Polish Displaced Person Camps in 1948. Joe/John was instrumental in bringing the recently dedicated life-size bronze sculpture of Grand Island WWII Jerp amd Medal of Honor recipient Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper to fruition. A ceremony will take place on Tuesday, August 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the flag pole in Slade Park. Everyone is welcome to attend and show their support.

. On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, the Grand Island American Legion Post 1346 awarded two scholarships to Grand Island High School 2021 Graduates, Morgan Proctor and Joseph Christiano. The checks were presented by Ray DeGlopper Post 1346 Commander.American Legion Flower Sale Thank You - May 2021

From the commander of the Grand Island American Legion Post 1346, Ray DeGlopper.I would like to thank all the people who purchased flowers from the Grand Island American Legion Post 1346 annual flower fundraiser that is used to support other non profit events (scholarships, VA, nursing homes, DeGlopper Memorial, Golden Age Center, etc.)
A special thanks goes out to to those who have donated materials, equipment and supplies for this event. And to all the American legion members who donated their time and efforts to make this a very successful event. Looking forward to your participation next year. The winner of the beautiful Barrel Planter donated by Hi-Way Garden Center was: Judy Link and was picked up by her husband Ron Link.
American Legion Flower Sale - May 2021
The Grand Island American Legion Post 1346 Annual Flower Fundraiser will take place on Friday & Saturday, May 7 & 8, from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. or sold out. New this year is patio tomatoes. Flowers are $15.00 and tomatoes are $6.00. Tickets will also be available for the barrel planter raffle. They are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.
