Friends of the Library - June 2024

Local author Matt Bindig.

Accepting the plaque from Library Director Bridgette Heintz is Dr. Bommaraju’s granddaughter Priya, his wife Savithri and family friend Laurie Koschuk.

    The Friends of Grand Island Memorial Library featured local author Matt Bindig as the guest speaker at their recent annual meeting. He talked about his newly published book "Far From the Twisted Reach" and inscribed copies for attendees.
Elected to two-year terms on the Friends Board were Jill Banaszak – Vice-President, Joyce Thornton – Corresponding Secretary, Nancy Vizzi – Treasurer, and Board Members Phyllis Galie, Richard Smyth and Jan Yardley. The Volunteer of the Year was awarded posthumously to Dr. Tilak Bommaraju for his many years of unselfish and devoted service to the Friends. The Friends are once again sponsoring prizes for children, teens and adults for the Summer Reading Program that kicks off at the library on July 8. A Discard Book Sale is scheduled for September and a Donated Book Sale will be held in November. Membership applications to join the Friends are available at the library.
