THE READING BUG @ THE GRAND ISLAND MEMORIAL LIBRARY
SUMMER
PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN
The Grand Island Memorial
Library is offering several programs that encourage children to read and enjoy
books this summer. The library is
participating in Catch the Reading Bug @ the library, a nationwide summer
reading program.
LITTLE BUG READ-TO-ME
CLUB is for children 1 to 6 years of
age and their families. It begins
Monday, July 7 and has no regular meeting time.
Children and an adult visit the library each week to select books to read
at home. On their first visit, they
will receive a reading log to fill out and return each week to earn stickers for
the books read. Activity and
coloring sheets will be available each week for children to do at home.
BOOKWORM CLUB
is for independent readers who have completed grades 1 to 5 and also has no set
meeting time. Beginning Monday,
July 7, children may visit the library at any time to select books and pick up
their reading log. Participants
will earn stickers for each book read on a weekly basis.
Activity and coloring sheets will be available each week for children to
do at home.
GRAND ISLAND GRASSHOPPERS
is open to children entering Grades 1 & 2 in September.
Programs will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Tuesdays from July 8 to
August 12 and will include stories, songs, games and crafts.
Children will receive a reading log to complete and other giveaways for
participating in the programs.
LIBRARY LIGHTNING BUGS
is open to children entering Grades 3 – 6 in September.
Programs will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Thursdays from July 10
– August 14 and will include stories, songs, games and crafts.
Children will receive a reading log to complete and other giveaways for
participating in the programs.
Registration for these
programs begins Friday, June 13. Participants
may sign up in person at the library or by calling 773-7124.
All children participating
in these summer programs are eligible to attend our Summer Celebration on August
14th at the Library which will feature Nels Cremean of In Jest.
Once again, we are pleased
to announce that Glenn Colton will present a musical program on Tuesday, July 22
at 2:00 p.m.
Funding for our summer
program is provided by the Friends of the Grand Island Memorial Library and by
the Development Office of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
