The
Grand Island 11U Little League Baseball team won the 2013 NY State District 1 Championship Tournament. During the five game tournament held at Orchard Park, the Grand Island boys scored 46 runs while only allowing the other teams to score a total of 9. The championship game played on July 5th against the home team Orchard Park Maroons ended in a 1-0 Grand Island victory. The combination of excellent pitching and defense with timely hitting proved to be the recipe for success.
GI Little League Food Drive - June 2013
The Grand Island Little League will be conducting their annual food drive on Saturday, June 15th to benefit the GI Neighbors Foundation. They will be collecting non-perishable food items throughout the day at each diamond and at the concession stand.GI Little League Opening Day - May 2013

The Grand Island Little League held its opening day ceremonies this past Saturday, May 11th and though the temperatures were on the cool side, there was excitement in the air as players and coaches kicked off the start of this year's baseball season.The Little League Pledge was read by Dominic Ford and followed by a beautiful rendition of the national anthem sung by Kristianne Casale. Many local officials were recognized for their service to the town including; Town Supervisor Mary Cooke, Councilmen Dick Crawford, Gary Roesch, Chris Aronica and Ray Billica { who was unable to attend}; Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick and New York State Senator, Mark Grisanti.
. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards. Winners were Paul Wynne, Peewee Sportsmanship; Ben Steck, International Sportsmanship; Bryce Jellinick, Majors MVP; Thyler Gardner and Tyler Dwork, co-winners of Sportsmanship Awards; Nick Lenz, Haller Award; Mikayla Claus, Potter Award; Grace Samplinski, International Softball Sportsmanship; Hannah Chorey, Minors Softball Sportsmanship; Abigail Klie and Emma Richard, co-winners, Majors Softball. Recipients of the senior scholarship awards were Corey Adamshick and Alyssa Cino. Retiring Town Parks & Recreation Director Linda Tufillaro received the Bunny Luther award.
A special tribute was paid to the late Ken Lenz who was represented by his wife, Lori and sons Phil, Mathew, Nick, Zachery and Alex.
