Benefit set for ailing Grand Isle infant |

Friends
are holding a benefit dinner and auction Sunday, January 5, 2002 for
9-month-old Olivia Williams, a Grand Island infant who has undergone
several surgeries and recently received a liver and small bowel
transplant.
Olivia was born with short bowel syndrome and jejunal atresia, a rare birth defect in which the small intestine is separated. She underwent several surgeries in Buffalo and received the transplant at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, but has suffered numerous complications since her latest surgery. The auction will run from 2 to 6 p.m. in Post 26, AMVETS, 600 Ward Road in North Tonawanda. Money raised will cover the family's medical and accommodation expenses. The total value of items in the auction is about $5,000, including a private suite for 18 at a Buffalo Sabres game. Tickets are $20 each; free for children under 12.
