Klingel Town Commons and the gazebo area were bustling with activity as the town held its annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3. Children had a chance to sit in the fire truck or one of the police cars and get involved in games and crafts by the Grand Island Recreation Department. A Kan Jam tournament was also held for the young adults. Everyone enjoyed downing a hot dog or two from the Grand Island Fire Company Auxiliary booth. Others involved in this year's Night Out included Zonta, Girl Scouts, CERT, Traffic Safety Board, USCG auxiliary and Grand Island schools. A variety of rock music was provided by Mama and Papa Root.Photos include the following:
Elizabeth Wakefield and her granddaughter, Julia, put the fixins' on their hot dogs.
Bridget and Rebecca { in the driver's seat} had a chance to see what it was like being a bus driver instead of riding the bus. With them is their dad, Rich Sander
Firefighter Tammy Gorman tells Andrew Pyc, son of Amy Pyc, all about the fire truck. Andrew also got to sit in the fire truck like real firemen do.
Joe Torregcossa and Gino Lamaraco were just two of the competitors in the Kam Jam tournament. {Joe is in yellow shirt, Gino in white shirt}
Paul Lechner and Perry Figliotti were on hand representing the USCG Auxilary which is reponsible for safety patrol, search/rescue and boat operations on our waterways.

Mama and Papa Root entertained the crowd with their early rock music.
