Recreation Department Holiday Lights Contest - Decembert 2021
All entries receive a handmade ornament for participating.
Below are the results from the G.I. Rec. Dept. Holiday Light Contest. New this year, all entries will receive a handmade ornament.These were made from trees from Grand Island. You can see photos of the winning entries HERE. Prizes are awarded to the top three in each category. The results from the contest are: Classic Category: 1st Place – 2921 Stony Point, 2nd Place – 131 Autumn, 3rd Place – 2371 Second Street. Contemporary Category: 1st Place – 190 South Lane, 2nd Place – 301 South Lane, 3rd Place – 54 Countryside.Recreation Department Youth Kayak Class - August 2021
Grand Island Recreation Department is having an introduction to kayak class for ages 13-17. Kayaks, lifejackets and paddles will be provided. The class will take place Monday & Tuesday, August 30-31 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Registration is necessary and class size is limited.Recreation Department Summer Social - July 2021

The Town of Grand Island Recreation Department is introducing an Adaptive Program for ages 4 to 18 years old who identify as individuals with special needs. New Recreation Programs - June 2021
New Programs: Registration for Hockey, Swim and Golf opens Monday, 6/14 at 8:00 a.m.Hockey - lessons and league. We will offer hockey lessons for boys and girls 6-8 years old and a hockey league for boys and girls 9-13 years old. No need to have a team. Sign up and Rec. Staff will make teams the first week.
Swim Lessons - swim lessons are back! They are open for all ages from parent / child classes up to adult lessons. Please note, swim lessons are in the High School Pool and any NYS mandates specific to schools must be followed, including wearing face coverings when moving through the building. Face coverings will not have to be worn during lessons. Locker rooms will be available.
Golf - we have added an introduction to golf program for participants ages 5-6. This will be run at the Nike Base and a putting class at local Putt Putt.
Adaptive Program - we are starting a new program for participants with special needs. The program will be run by Daniella Salvatore. Daniella is a social worker with 15 years of experience and has extensive experience working with participants with special needs. We have an open house on Wednesday, June 23rd from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Community Center located in Nike Base Park. Come meet the staff and see the facility.

Trail MapThe Town of Grand Island Recreation Department is hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 2nd from 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.; it will take approximately 30 minutes to walk the entire trail. Children ages 3-10 are invited to attend.
