Relay for Life Can Drive - Feb. 2011
Island Deli and Meat Market is joining Grand Island's Relay for Life efforts in conjunction with National Paint the Town Purple Day. Becky Sommer-Stufkosky, chairman of the 2011 can drive, asks the question, "Why do we need cans you ask? good question?" Becky's answer follows:As some of you are aware, last year we came up with the idea to anchor the luminarias with a can. After the event, we donated the cans of food to our very own Grand Island's Neighbors Foundation. We found in the past that sand or kitty litter made a very big mess and that by using cans, we were able to better secure the Luminarias and would as well be able to help those less fortunate. What do we need from our good friends right here on Grand Island and beyond you ask? Lots and lots of CANS. Last year we were able to collect 1500. We are shooting for that number again but to be honest, I think we will be in need of more.
The Island Deli and Meat Market has joined forces with Grand Island's Relay and will be sponsoring a can drive on Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m Cans may be dropped off at the Deli, 2488 Grand Island Blvd., during these hours. You may also arrange for a pick up by calling 774-8978 and someone will be more that glad to come and get them. We will be collecting cans all the way until the night of Relay which is going to take place on June 3rd this year at the High School. Please feel free to call anytime for a pick up.
