October 12       PEACE Sunday:  Faizan Haq, “The Islamic Concept of Peace.”  Faizan is Vice President of the Pakistani American Association of WNY and General Secretary of the Pakistani American Congress; a founding member of the Committee for the Study of Understanding, Community and Peace at Buffalo State College; and teaches “Islamic Cultural History” and “USA & the Muslim World” at Cora P. Maloney College at UB.

 

October 14              (1) Eric Smith, “The Lives of Ordinary Palestinians under Israeli Occupation,” 7 p.m., Network of Religious Communities, 1272 Delaware.  Eric, from East Aurora, was in the West Bank in July with Christian Peacemaker Teams.  (2) Jim Wittebols, “Choosing the President: The Media Effect,” League of Women Voters’ General Membership Meeting, 7:30-9:00 p.m., Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road (south of Main St.), Amherst

October 19       Video:  “A View from the Underside: The Legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer,” performed by Al Staggs.   Historical social witness/justice ministry struggle against Hitler, Nazism, fascism.

 

October 20              LASC Coffeehouse:  Daniel Kovalis, legal counsel for the United Steelworkers, speaks about International Labor Rights in Colombia, 7:00 p.m., Network of Religious Communities, 1272 Delaware Ave.  Co-sponsored by CEJ and WNYCOSH.

 

October 24              Reception and showing of Bill Jungels’ documentary, “Crossing the Line,” Hallwalls, 7:00 p.m., 4th floor, Tri-Main Building, 2495 Main St., about the effects of NAFTA on the US, Mexico and Canada.

 

October 26       Sharing Our Gifts:  THEME:  “Change.”  Patty Johnson begins our sharing with a discussion of the Campaign for a New Foreign Policy.

November 9      PEACE Sunday: Dr. Othman Shibly, Report on a meeting with a group from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.  Dr. Shibly is Coordinator of the International Advanced Dental Education at UB, Director of the Visiting Scholar Program at UB, on the Board of Directors of the Center of Ethics and Spirituality in the Workplace, the Islamic Society of the Niagara Frontier and the American Muslim Council.

 

November 13           (1) 10 Commandments of Peace?
