“Bringing Peace to the Congo.” Mary
Kay Jou, LSW, MSW, Director and Founder of the Training Dept. at the
International Institute of New Jersey, will present her experience as the first
social worker to co-facilitate the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)
workshops in the Congo. Our local
Interfaith Peace Network (IPN) contributed to the costs of this exceptional
journey. ALSO: Western Area

“My Bicycle Trip Across the United States to Support Caroline’s
House” by Sue Tomkins, Professor Law at UB and chair of the Board of
Directors of the YWCA of Niagara, who rode from Washington (state) to
Massachusetts, from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
Nov. 20
"In the Eye of the Storm: Violence
against Women in India and Globalization.”
Rima Aranha will briefly talk about her work and WIB-India.
Drawing from that, she will specifically talk about dowry deaths and
bride burnings--but conceptualizing this in the larger globalizing trends we are
seeing today. Pat Shelly, a
member of Women in Black-Buffalo, will offer a report on the 12th International
Women in Black Conference, held in East Jerusalem, which she attended in August.
The path of feminist peace offers many ideas and strategies, and Pat will
recount some from Israel, Palestine, Belgrade, Spain, and Italy.
