August 31     June & Roger’s 23rd Annual Labor SUNDAY potluck-picnic (see enclosure); 2-6 p.m., 1515 West River Road, Grand Island (773-1426).

 

Sept. 4          Clergy & Laity Concerned About Violence at Network of Religious Communities, 1272 Delaware, 8-9:30 a.m., to consider affiliating with/creating a chapter of Fellowship of Reconciliation in WNY.  Refreshments provided.

 

Sept. 7           BUSINESS MEETING; Amistad  Service, including celebration/dedication of ship’s bell donated by Jim Whitlock, calling us to “ring out danger, warning, love. . .in the morning, in the evening, all over this land.”

 

Sept. 10        Interfaith Service commemorating the arrival of the Freedom Schooner Amistad, 7:30 p.m., St. Paul’s Cathedral, 128 Pearl Street, Buffalo. 

 

Sep 10-14      Evening gatherings at Langston-Hughes Center, 25 High Street, to discuss the relevance of the Amistad in today’s world.  Call Michael Hill at Langston-Hughes Center for info:  881-3266.

 

Sept. 14        “I remember the Amistad” video, 4-6 p.m. at church; a Closing Ceremony and Interfaith Service for the Amistad Schooner takes place at 7 p.m. at the Buffalo Waterfront (Erie Basin Marina).  For updated information:  www.bechs.org/amistad/ or call  886-2634 (Barbara) or 652-5040 (Amos).

 

Sep. 20         Great Lakes Beach Sweep/International Coastal Clean-up at the cottage, arrive 9:30 with boots/gloves; work from 10-12:00; refreshments following.

 

Sept. 21        CROP Walk (1-3, Beaver Island); Second Amistad video:  “Bridging the Divide,” produced by/for UCC, and discussion at the church cottage.
