On Tuesday, May 10, the Grand Island Central School District Board of Education unanimously appointed Brian Graham, Ed.D.as the new school superintendent effective July 1, 2016. Mr. Graham currently serves as the assistant superintendent of pupil personnel services for West Seneca Central School District. Mr. Graham's 30 year career has been dedicated to education, with approximately 14 years spent in a leadership role with West Seneca Central School District. In addition, Mr. Graham has served as an adjunct professor at Daemen College, a special education teacher for Alden Schools and Heritage Centers.Mr. Graham earned his doctorate in educational leadership from D'Youville College and his master’s degree in special education from Buffalo State College. His certifications include New York State School District Administration, New York State School Administration/Supervision, New York State Special Education (N-21) and New York State Elementary Education (K-6). The board approved a contract for Mr. Graham at its May 10, 2016 meeting. The contract is effective July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019.

Candidates interested in a seat on the Grand Island Board of Education must file nominating petitions with District Clerk Janet Schuster by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016. Thirty three (33) valid signatures of district residents are required on a petition. Forms are available at the district office located at 1100 Ransom Road from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays beginning March 21, 2016. The two (2) available seats are for three-year terms. The qualifications to run for the Board of Education are: (1) you must be a citizen of the United States; (2) you must be at least 18 years of age; (3) you must be a resident of the district for one year prior to the election; and (4) you must be able to read and write. GRAND ISLAND, NY - The search for Grand Island's future school superintendent is well underway. Applications for the superintendent position have been received by Dr. Lynn Marie Fusco, Grand Island's search consultant and district superintendent of Erie 1 BOCES. The Board is moving on to the next steps in the process. The Board will review the applications on March 1 and will then conduct preliminary interviews on March 12. Final full-day interviews will be conducted on April 11, 12 and 14.
Dr. Fusco will be reaching out to leaders in our educational community to assemble interview teams that represent members of our community, faculty and staff for the full-day interviews. It is not too late to express your interest to participate in the process. If you are interested in participating on the community team, please contact Lisa Pyc via lisapyc@grandislandschools.org .
The community survey has also been tallied. Nearly 250 responses were received. Parents with students in the district accounted for approximately 48% of the responses, followed by 33% district employees, 9% community members without school aged children, 4% parents with students enrolled in other schools and 2% current student responses. Through the survey, we have learned that being active in the community, willing to commit to the district, and being visible and accessible are among the qualities that are most valued and sought in the next district leader. The District thanks all who completed the online survey; the input will prove valuable to the Board as the process continues.
