Deadline for Mailed GICSD Absentee Ballots Extended to June 16 - June 2020
GRAND ISLAND....June 8, 2020 The deadline for Grand Island Central School District voters to submit their ballots for the 2020-21 proposed budget and Board of Education election has been extended to Tuesday, June 16, pursuant to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s June 7 executive order No. 202.39.Postage-paid absentee ballots were mailed to registered voters in late May in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, all ballots were required to be in the District Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, however Gov. Cuomo has extended the deadline for mailed ballots in all New York State school districts, giving voters additional time to vote by mail.
Pursuant to the executive order, mailed ballots must be received in the District Clerk’s office no later than June 16 to be counted. This is a week after the deadline for hand-delivered ballots, which will be accepted until 5 p.m. on June 9. A ballot box has been set up outside the District Office, located at 1100 Ransom Road, Grand Island, NY 14072. After 5 p.m. on June 9, the ballot box will be removed, and hand-delivered ballots will no longer be accepted.
“Our proposed budget balances the needs of both the taxpayers of the Grand Island School community and our students through the development of a fiscally responsible budget designed to provide our students with the best diversified educational program,” said Dr. Brian Graham, Superintendent of Grand Island Schools. District residents received special budget editions of the Bridge newsletter in the mail recently. Voters can learn more about the proposed budget and the school board candidates by reading the newsletter or by going online to www.grandislandschools.org/budget2020. “As a result of the extensive planning, analysis and future projections, the Grand Island Central School District is committed to providing our families and community with the necessary budget information to make an informed decision,” Dr. Graham said.
