The Grand Island Central School District Athletic Department has announced a new policy that restricts animals from athletic contests for 2021. No dogs or pets -- only service dogs -- will be allowed at any athletic contest, on turf or grass, effective immediately. The district has put up new signage stating the new policy on the fence entering Gene Masters Field, the H. David Myers Athletic Contest, and the new grass softball field.School Board Meeting - August 2021

Thank you to all members of the community who voted in the Grand Island Board of Education Election and Budget Vote held May 18, 2021. Congratulations to Glenn Bobeck and Joy LaMarca on your reelection. The board would like to welcome Danielle Bruno to our cadre. We are fortunate to have a budget that has passed and so many pro education constituents supporting the important work of educating young people.This has been a challenging year for our school-community, and the flexibility and understanding of parents was appreciated as we worked through an unprecedented pandemic safely.Students were excited to be back in school full-time! It is wonderful to see the lacrosse teams, baseball and softball players, and football teams and cheerleaders use our new sports complex and track teams and our unified basketball team competing again. Please visit our live stream to watch students play sports or see school events. End of the year ceremonies will be livestreamed, and you access our live stream events with the address included below. Currently, the plan is for these events to be livestreamed only, however the school district will adapt should indoor guidance change prior to these events. Upcoming event dates are at the conclusion of the article as we close out the school year along with the address for our Grand Island Community Education Program summer enrichment course offerings and registration. Be sure to visit the Community Education page to sign up for ACT/SAT preparation courses, theater workshops, sports camps, and many other opportunities.
We hope to continue to see parents at our meetings. Please know that board meeting formats across that state follow basic parliamentary procedures and Robert’s Rules of Order. Thus, the meetings are not a two-way dialogue, however you can contact a board member to have a discussion and any one of us would be happy to meet with you or speak with you. Parent forums, committees, and surveys are developed throughout the year where dialogue and input can be given. Additionally, at every board meeting, the voice of the people section enables any community member to speak for three minutes. The board cannot respond immediately; however, we do discuss matters that have been brought forward. There is also a round table discussion at the end of every meeting where trustees may make announcements. Please have a safe and enjoyable summer!
