Officers Assaulted After Road Stop - 2004
Niagara Gazette 7/13/04. . . A Wheatfield man and his passenger from Grand Island were arrested Saturday after being stopped for a traffic violation.
Officer Chris Soluri of the Town of Niagara Police stopped their vehicle after observing an unsafe lane change at 10:55 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Military Road.
The driver, Anthony J. Folino, 43, of 2047 Cayuga Drive Ext., Wheatfield, jumped out of his car and ran at the police car, yelling and screaming, Soluri said, and when told he would be arrested for disorderly conduct, he struggled, and was placed into custody. Meanwhile, the passenger, Peter D. Olivieri, 46, of 1401 West River Road, Grand Island, also got out of the car and went towards the officer in a threatening manner, but returned to the car to take the keys from the ignition.
When Deputy Chief Jeff Spears arrived as backup, Olivieri ran to Spears car. When told to stay back and advised he would be placed under arrest, Olivieri said he wasn't going easy and began fighting with two officers, Soluri said. Olivieri was subdued and placed in custody.
Folino was charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and two counts of assault third degree.
