Hydroplane Racing League News - January 2020
The HRL (Hydroplane Racing League) recently held its 2020 Convention in Valleyfield, Quebec. The Grand Island connection is Steeler GP-777, a Grand Prix boat crewed by many Grand Island residents, including Mike Endres, Gary Roesch & Mike Geblein. The Steeler was champion for the 2019 season with Jimmy King as driver.Some changes decided at the convention for the racing league: If one or more teams cannot participate in the final, the vacant place (s) may be filled by stand-by boats. The goal is to present breathtaking finals with the best boats. Over the next three years strengthening the cockpit and adding a safety cage inside the boats will be the priority of the league. For the 2020 season, a neck restraint system will be mandatory of all drivers.
It was announced that Reliable Diamond Tool, Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona will be the official presenter of HRL for the 2020 season. The WNY boat races, Thunder on the Niagara, will take place on Saturday & Sunday, August 1 & 2nd at Gratwick Park, North Tonawanda.
