"Bye Bye Birdie" at St. Stephens - February 2014
Tickets available at the door.
Grand Island is soon to be taken over by a bunch of teenage girls professing their love for Conrad Birdie in the ever-popular musical, Bye Bye Birdie. St. Stephen's Parish Players will be presenting "Bye Bye Birdie", book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, on February 21, 22, 23, 28, and March 1. Offering something for everyone, the Players have three buffet dinner shows with a cash bar, a Sunday matinee, and closing night is a regular show with a cash bar available.
"Bye Bye Birdie" is about a teen pop idol named Conrad Birdie (Jared Eichel), who is about to join the Army. Before leaving for the army, his manager, Albert (Billy Horn), and secretary, Rosie (Rachel Olszewski), devise a plan to have Conrad kiss one lucky girl, Kim MacAfee (Natalie Baldassarre), much to the dismay of her boyfriend, Hugo (McLain Erhard). It is a romantic comedy musical filled with great dance numbers, choreographed by Cathy Thomas, and featuring many teens, including Jess Ackendorf, Rebekah Gaydosh, Alex Gormady, and Maggie Rustowicz, who play Kim's best friends. The show is a great combination of adult and youth talent and had Island favorites Steve Olszewski as Harry MacAfee, Chris Mongielo as Mae Peterson, and Mike Lombardo in the cameo role of Ed Sullivan. The show features the well-known songs, "Happy Face" and "We Love You, Conrad", and has great entertainment by James Bobak and the teens in Telephone Hour.
Birdie is directed by Maura Rustowicz and vocals are by Annalea Masiello. For tickets, contact Kim Kalman at 465-5574 or go to DeSignet Jewelry, 1869 Whitehaven Road.
