BUSINESS FIRST
A new ownership group has taken control of one of Grand Island's signature office buildings.
JSJ Holdings LLC has acquired the former Dunlop Tire Corp. headquarters on Long Road as part of a settlement with its former owners, Better Senior Living Corp. Better Senior Living bought the 72,000-square-foot building in 1999 with the intention of converting into senior housing for low-to-moderate income residents.
The plans became stalled and that set up a legal battle between Better Senior Living and JSJ Holdings. The structure sat vacant for the better part of a decade.
According to public records, the transfer was valued at $600,000. Better Senior Living bought the building from GE Pension Trust for $400,000.
The building dates to the early 1960s when it was constructed as the local headquarters for the former Hooker Chemical Co.
Dunlop took over the building in the early 1970s. The tire company moved its corporate headquarters to Amherst in the early 1990s.
James Metz, a JSJ Holdings partner, said his group plans to actively market the building.
