Authorities charge 18 teens at apartment party

Eighteen teenagers were arrested Thursday night on charges of underage drinking at an apartment party on Grand Island, the Erie County Sheriff's Office reported.

Two deputies were dispatched to a Bedell Road apartment at about 11:10 p.m. after a neighbor called to complain about the party. The deputies arrived to see many youths "scrambling back into the apartment," the sheriff's office said.

Several of the youths who were arrested are under 16. They were charged with underage drinking. The hosts of the party, who were also juveniles, were charged with first-degree unlawful dealing with a child, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of marijuana.

The parents of the teenagers were called and required to pick them up from the sheriff's substation.
