Two crashes involving about 10 vehicles forced the closing of one lane of the southbound South Grand Island Bridge through the rush hour Wednesday morning, state police said.
The first crash occurred at about 7:15 a. m. and involved about seven vehicles, troopers said. The second series of crashes involved two or three more vehicles.
No serious injuries were reported, but an off-duty State Police investigator who apparently got out of his vehicle to help with traffic collapsed at the scene, according to Rebecca Gibbons, State Police public information officer. He was treated in Millard Fillmore Hospital.
