Grand Island Dollars for Scholars will  host its 2nd Annual 5K Run and 1 mile Fun Walk on Saturday, October 3, 2009 to raise funds for Grand Island student scholarships for 2010.  Nearly 85 runners and walkers showed up last year on a bright and sunny day to participate in the event.

Jim Sharpe, Dollars for Scholars’ president said,  “We received great comments from everyone who participated in the run last year.  They were especially impressed with the course.  Runners from off Island could not believe how beautiful Veteran’s Park &and the Grand Island bike path were and they are looking forward to coming back this year for the Run.  We are very pleased at the support from the community and surrounding area runners.”

Sharpe continued, “A lot of credit goes out to Mike Hilliker/Event Director, Event Assistant, Laura Anderson, Linda Tufillaro from Town Recreation Department, Committee Members Bev Kinney, Judy Schmidt, Joanne Kud, Johanna Blue, Jennifer Peresie, Sonya Miller, Councilwoman, Mary Cooke  and more than 20 volunteers, for the outstanding job they did putting last year’s event together.  We were also pleased to have on hand Dick Bessel to start our 2^nd annual race off.”
