New signs on the I-190 will direct people to the Grand Island business district, local officials announced Tuesday.
The signs, one northbound at Exit 18A and one southbound at Exit 20B, direct drivers to get off at Grand Island Boulevard.
More than 100 businesses, many of them on Grand Island Boulevard, are registered with the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce. Among them: Martin’s Fantasy Island, Kelly’s Country Store and many restaurants.
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, worked with Town Supervisor Peter Mc- Mahon, the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Island Economic Development Advisory Board to erect the signs.
“Too many people think Grand Island is just something they drive past on their way to Niagara Falls. We want people to see beyond that,” Hoyt said in a prepared statement.
