Clean Up Grand Island 2025 - April 2025

We are looking for volunteers to come help clean up the environment all over Grand Island, on the morning of Saturday, April 26th. This is our 6th Annual Clean UP Grand Island event! It is organized by the Town of Grand Island, Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, Grand Island Rotary, Grand Island Lions & Niagara River Greenway to encourage the local community to come together and spruce up our beautiful Island. With the snow melted away and the foliage not yet in bloom, it's easy to identify areas where trash & debris have accumulated over winter and are in need of removal. All that's needed is a few hours of your time, a little passion to keep nature clean and a heart of service. You can put a team together or attend as individual. Either way, please join us and help Clean UP Grand Island! Check Out Our Online Map of Target Locations! If you have additional locations that are in need of clean up that are not on the map, let us know and we will add them. Click the link to view the official Clean UP Grand Island Map & Location List.

27th Annual KidBiz Entrepreneur Sale- April 2025

When: Saturday, June 21st, 2025 from 10am - 2pm; Where: The Grand Island Town Commons (2255 Baseline Road)
The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce has planned and organized the KidBiz Young Entrepreneur Program for the last 26 years. Annually, we have anywhere from 100-150 students who have a blast participating in the program. The KidBiz program shows students in 2nd through 8th grade just what it takes to run a business. The kids come up with their own ideas for a product to develop, market and then sell. Some students even sign a loan agreement with their parents to cover start-up costs. This is a wonderful opportunity for business leaders in our community to set a great example for our future business owners and provide some guidance & support to these budding entrepreneurs.FaceBook Page.

Extended Hours for Passports - March 2025

Erie County, NY – As the deadline for obtaining a REAL ID approaches, Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns reminds residents that they can use passports and passport cards for domestic travel and access to federal facilities starting May 7, 2025. These documents both serve as alternatives to REAL ID when the new travel regulations take effect.
To assist the traveling public in meeting the new federal compliance standard, the Erie County Clerk’s Outreach Center, located at 1088 Union Road, directly next to the Auto Bureau in the Southgate Plaza, will have extended hours from March 24 to 27. During this period, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing an additional two hours of service. This event is open to the public- no appointment is necessary.
"As the REAL ID deadline approaches, we encourage residents to review their identification and travel documents to ensure a smooth travel experience," Kearns stated. "If obtaining a passport or passport card is the best option for you, the Clerk’s Outreach Center is ready to assist first-time applicants with the process. Passport cards are an excellent, affordable alternative that provide a quick way to ensure you are prepared for domestic air travel as well access to federal facilities."
Erie County residents will be able to apply for a passport card, passport book, or both. For any application to be processed, proof of citizenship is mandatory and includes any one of the following: Certified birth certificate issued by city, county or state; or an original Naturalization certificate; or a previously issued passport book or card. Additionally, proof of identity such as a current New York State driver’s license or non-driver identification card is also required.
Kearns added, "Currently, new passport applications can take 4 to 6 weeks to process, which coincides with the May 7th deadline. To ensure that travelers are not left behind, this is an ideal time to apply for a passport book or card to comply with the REAL ID requirements." Payment must be in the form of a personal check or money order. No cash will be accepted. Each passport for an adult must be accompanied by a check or money order for $130, made payable to the U.S. Department of State and a separate check for $35, made payable to the Erie County Clerk. Fees for children under 16 are $100, payable to the U.S. Department of State and $35 payable to the Erie County Clerk. Passport photos can be taken on-site and are available for $10.
Passport applications, a list of all required documents, and a complete schedule of fees are available by visiting erie.gov/passports or by contacting the Erie County Clerk’s Office Outreach Center at (716) 858-8864. You can apply for a U.S. Passport at one of the two Erie County Clerk’s Office locations: Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, or the Clerk’s Outreach Center, 1088 Union Road, West Seneca, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM; with extended hours until 7 PM on Thursdays. Visit either location during these hours for assistance with your passport application or any other services related to the Erie County Clerk’s Office. To learn more about the REAL ID and review the list of acceptable documents needed to meet the new compliance standards, or to schedule a DMV appointment online, please visit erie.gov/clerk/REALID.

Deadly Drug Reported - January 2025

ERIE COUNTY, NY – The Erie County Department of Health is alerting the community that recent toxicology testing detected carfentanil in the local unregulated drug supply. As a fentanyl analogue – which means it is a substance that has a similar chemical structure to fentanyl – carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is up to 100 times more potent than fentanyl. That stronger potency means that a small dose of carfentanil can cause immediate and severe adverse reactions including overdose or death. Full press release.
