Troop 630 Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser - March 2023

    March 25, 2023 12pm -6pm: Boy Scout Troop 630 Spaghetti Dinner, Basket Raffle and Sports Raffle at Trinity Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road. Raffles include autographed Bills, Bandits, Bisons and Sabres items as well gift certificates and baskets, Spaghetti with meatballs, salad, bread, drinks and desserts served by Scouts. Scoutmaster of the Year Award - March 2015

   The Greater Niagara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Polaris District, presented Scott Swagler the Scoutmaster of the Year award for 2014. Scott is the Scoutmaster for Troop 630 based out of St. Stephen's RC Church on Grand Island. Mr. Swagler is responsible for all the functions of the Troop and the activities of the scouts. He has been Scoutmaster for the Troop for the past 6 years.




Troop 630 Spaghetti Dinner & Basket Raffle - March 2015

    Boy Scout Troop 630 is having its annual Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle on Sunday, March 15th at the St. Stephen's School Cafetorium from Noon till 6:00 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, drink and dessert. Tickets are $7/adults, $6/seniors, $4/children 3-10 and under 3 free. Take out is available. Troop 630 Helps Code Blue Relief Mission - December 2014

    Boy Scout Troop 630 is conducting a Christmas Community Service Project which involves collecting items for Code Blue Relief Mission. Code Blue collects & distributes items to the homeless in the Buffalo area. Items needed are: New or Used Winter Jackets, Snowpants, Boots, Socks, Gloves, Hats, Long Underwear, Sleeping Bags, Blankets, Tarps and Hand Warmers. They are in great need of boots, sleeping bags & socks, but will accept anything on the list.
    Adult men & women sizes are needed. Representatives of Code Blue will be collecting at the scout meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 17th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Stephen's Church. People can bring their donations that evening. If they cannot bring at that time, the donations can be dropped off at Cole International, 2094 Grand Island Blvd. See flyer for details.




Troop 630 Scouts at Jamboree - July 2013

   Three members of Grand Island Boy Scout Troop 630 are in West Virginia this week experiencing the Boy Scout National Jamboree. The Jamboree is held every four years and is a huge event attended by over 40,000 Boy Scouts from across the country. Scouts Nolan Miles, John Sosnowski and Steven Stouter left on Sunday, July 14th traveling with the Greater Niagara Frontier Council. During the week they will have the opportunity to white water raft, zip line, BMX ride, skateboard, canopy tours, scuba dive, archery, etc.

   The 38th Annual Religious Awards Ceremony was held by the Buffalo Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. The ceremony was held at St. Joseph's Cathedral on March 31st. Local Troop 630 scouts were honored with the Pope Pius XII award. Eagle Scout Christopher Swagler, Life Scout Benjamin Shaw, and Life Scout John Sosnowski were award the Pope Pius XII award. The Pope Pius program assists the scouts to develop a fully Christian way of life. In addition Christopher and John received the Bishops award. This award is presented to scouts who complete all four Religious Emblems.
   Rev. Samuel J. Venne of St. Stephen's Church was presented the Saint George Award. The Saint George award recognizes embers of the laity and clergy, Scouters and non-Scouters alike, who have made significant and outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting.




Grand Island Fire Cadet Attains Eagle Scout Rank - November 2011

   GIFC Fire Cadet Evan Shaw was awarded the prestigious Eagle Scout rank during a special ceremony on October 28, 2011 at fire headquarters.
    Fire Chief Kevin Koch, who is also an Eagle Scout, reaffirmed Evan's long term scouting commitment which started in 2002 as a Cub Scout and culminated on January 12, 2011 when he reached the ultimate Eagle achievement. His qualifying project while a member of Troop 630 involved a 160-hour cleanup, painting, and repair venture at the Nike Base Community Center, and included 30 other fellow scouts.
    Several official proclamations recognized this personal milestone, including one from the Town of Grand Island, which congratulated Evan for his special October 28th Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
    Meanwhile, Evan pursued another character building goal when he became a GIFC fire cadet on July 29, 2009 and recently advanced to the position of senior cadet as part of his community service training.
    In addition, Evan has earned three separate scholarship grants towards his college studies at the SUNYAB where he is pursuing undergrad courses in biomedical engineering.

The dinner is for the benefit the Scouts' Summer Camp Fund. Dinners will include Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salad, Bread & Butter, Drink and Dessert.

Boy Scout Troop 630 took some time out of their winter break to prepare for Christmas by painting the Town's Nativity scene figurines. The effort was coordinated by Linda Tufillro, Director of Parks and Recreation. The scouts worked on the figurines in the community center of the Nike Base.

On Saturday, March 27, 2010, several Boy Scouts from Troop 630, sponsored by Saint Stephen’s Church, received the Ad Altare Dei Emblem at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral. These medals were presented at a special Mass for the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The purpose of the Ad Altare Dei program is to equip the Boy Scout to take his place in the world as a maturing Catholic and American. The requirements center on the Sacraments because it is through them that a person can become a maturing disciple of Christ. The Scouts are Connor Harrigan, Benjamin Shaw, John Sosnowski, and Matthew Wellence.

Boy Scout Sunday was celebrated on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Saint Stephen Roman Catholic Church. This year was a special celebration in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting on February 8, 2010. Four Cub Scouts received their Religious Emblem awards. Pictured are Parvuli Dei recipient Alexander Melisz, Light of Christ recipients Gabriel Wright and Vincent Ricotta, Parvuli Dei recipient Ryan Wellence, Religious Emblems Counselor Carol Hamm and Father Paul Nagaro.




Boy Scout Sunday Celebration - Feb. 2010

Congratulations to the Boy Scouts of America on the 100th Anniversary of Scouting, to be celebrated on February 8, 2010. Boy Scout Sunday will be celebrated at Saint Stephen’s Church on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the 9 AM Mass. All Cub and Boy Scout units on Grand Island are invited to participate. Please arrive at church at 8:30 AM in full uniform with your Unit Flag. We will then process down the aisle at the beginning of the Mass.
Several Cub Scouts from Pack 630 will be honored for their participation in religious activities at Scout Sunday Mass. The Light of Christ emblem, a stepping stone award toward developing a personal relationship with Jesus, will be presented to Vincent Ricotta and Gabriel Wright.
Alexander Melisz and Ryan Wellence will be receiving the Parvuli Dei emblem for advancement in religious and spiritual knowledge. Congratulations go out to these boys who have worked hard since September to receive these awards.
