Cub Scouts and leaders from Pack 425 held their annual Pinewood Derby Day at the Nike Base on January 27. This event engaged over 20 young cub scouts in the process of creating a raceable car from a small block of pinewood. Through the course of a month, the scouts worked independently to design, cut out, sand, paint and place wheels on a car that would eventually race against fellow scouts during Pinewood Derby Day. In addition to the overall winners, awards were given to participants based on their car design, paint job, wackiest design and uniqueness.

The Wolf and Tigers Dens from Cub Scout Pack 425 recently visited the Elderwood Nursing Home on Grand Island. They sang Christmas Carols to the residents and worked with seniors to create handmade Christmas ornaments. These boys in first and second grade did a fantastic job performing a skit for the residents as well. The scouts were fascinated with the physical therapy equipment that the seniors use and were very respectful of the facility and the residents.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 425 carved pumpkins during their Halloween Fun Day held at the Nike Base on October 7, 2006. The pumpkins were generously provided by the Island Farm Market and Garden Center.
The Cub Scouts had a fun-filled time during their Halloween Fun Weekend as they participated in a flag ceremony, nature walk, conservation projects, outdoor skills, recycling activities, Halloween Carnival (including pumpkin bowling, pumpkin golf, ring the pumpkin, and pumpkin penny pitch), Field Games, as well as a Monster Bash (where a mad scientist awoke a swamp "thing" from the dead). The scouts also pitched tents and slept outdoors on a very chilly night. For many of the scouts, this was their first outdoor camping adventure. The leaders were very pleased with everyone's participation and determination during this successful Halloween Fun Weekend.

It also helps to strengthen family and community relationships, build friendships and identify areas of interest.
Families who are unable to attend a sign-up night or have questions are asked to call Steve Heeb, Cubmaster at 628-2239, or Mary Howard at 773-1743 for more information.
