The Friends of Grand Island Memorial Library held its spring book sale on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28 in the meeting room at the library, 1715 Bedell Road. Shown are patrons finding bargains at the very popular bag sale held on Saturday from 1 - 3 PM when a bag of books cost only $2. Hundreds of books found new homes and a tidy sum was raised to support library programs such as Story Hour, The Big Read and Battle of the Books.
All of the books in the sale are donated and then sorted by members of the Friends organization all through the year. Volunteers handle all aspects of the sale including set up on Thursday night, sales and constant reorganization of the books on the tables throughout the sale and clean up on Saturday afternoon. Donations and sorting for the next sale (fall 2009) have already begun. Those with books to donate, may bring them anytime the library is open. The staff will be happy to accept any donations.
For those who missed the sale or who want to buy books between the twice annual used book sales, check out the Friends Book Cart near the check out desk at the library. There you will find an ongoing sale with gently used books at the great price of $1 for most hard covers and $.50 for most paperbacks. Special tags indicate prices different than these. Pay at the check out desk.
The book sales are the greatest recycling project on Grand Island and are possible because so many pitch in to help. The Friends would like to thank the residents of Grand Island for their ongoing support and the many volunteers who help make the sale a great success. Also a huge thank you to the library staff for their help every day.
