31st Annual Masonic Lodge Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast - 2007
The Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge will hold its 33rd annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast at the Buffalo Launch Club from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2007. Children ages 5 and yonger eat for free.

Masonic Lodges Offer Breakfast Program, 911 Interfaith Service
To Present Flags, Honor Community Groups - 2006
   (Buffalo, NY) — To mark the 5th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and honor community groups the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York will host special breakfast programs and interfaith religious services at designated locations throughout the Empire State. Here in Western New York, Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge No. 1138 along with Harmonie Lodge #699 and the oldest Masonic lodge in Erie County, Hiram Lodge #105, of Free and Accepted Masons will present flags to select community and civic groups at Grand Island Fire Headquarters. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2006. Doors open at 8 a.m.
   William Wood, Master of the Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge, said… "Freemasons are involved in many facets of every community. Still, there has always been a certain mystique about the Masons and their activities and beliefs. This is an opportunity for the Lodge to reach out to the community and for the community to see the Lodge at work."
   Local community leaders and members of the public are invited to participate in events on September 10th hosted by the three Lodges. An interfaith religious service to be held at Grand Island Fire Headquarters will feature readings from the Bible (both Old and New Testaments), the Qur'an and other religious texts; religious hymns and patriotic songs will also be sung. Following the service, the Lodge will provide a breakfast program, during which, a moment of silence will be observed for the lives lost during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Flags will then be presented to a variety of groups to celebrate the resiliency of our communities. In New York City, the Masons will present a total of 29,000 American flags to the Department of Education for use in the public elementary schools.

Morgan Receives Awards and Wins Competition - 2006
   (Utica, NY) Grand Island High school Senior Abe Morgan was recognized as an outstanding leader at the 2006 New York DeMolay Convention held August 3-6 2006 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY.
   On Saturday, August 5, at the Twin Ponds Country Club in New York Mills, the "Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award” (PMC-MSA) was presented to Abe by Executive Officer of New York DeMolay, Dad Keith B. Rung. The PMC-MSA was originated by the Founder of DeMolay, Frank S. Land. He recognized the tremendous advantage gained by the Master Councilor in having a pre-planned program for his term of office. When such a program has been planned and distributed to the Chapter membership, the M.C. has gone a long way in achieving goals he has set.
   While the Master Councilor is the only one that is qualified to apply and achieve the award, he cannot meet the standards of the award alone. The requirements can only be met through the combined efforts of the members. The Master Councilor must provide the leadership and incentive to inspire and motivate the members of his Chapter towards a well-rounded program and over-all efficiency in Chapter activities.
   Brother Morgan was also presented with a “Blue Honor Key,” presented to any DeMolay member who acts as “first line signer” for 10 new members of DeMolay. Morgan is only the second member to receive this recognition in Western New York in the last 10 years. Additionally, Abram was judged “champion” in two categories for his rendition of the Ceremony of Light and the Third Preceptor portion of the DeMolay Induction program.
   Founded in Kansas City in 1919, DeMolay is a Masonic youth organization open to young men between the ages of 12 and 21. Two active DeMolay chapters meet in Erie County. Ridge Council Chapter, sponsored by Lackawanna Lodge #887, meets on Thursdays and Cheektowaga Chapter, sponsored by the Cheektowaga Masonic center bodies, meets on Fridays. Bill Wood Leads Masonic Lodge
80-Year-Old Attains Longtime Goal - 2006
   Grand Island resident Bill Wood has been elected and installed to as Master of Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge.
   The new Master joined Grand Island Lodge in 1958 and has worked his way through the line since his son-in-law, Steve Morgan, led the group in 2001. A 40-year Grand Island resident, Mr. Wood is a life member and Past Fire Chief of the Grand Island Fire Company and retired from the Niagara Falls Air Force Base Fire Department.
   Other elected officers of the Lodge include Senior Warden Dave Hosking of North Tonawanda, Junior Warden Bill Harbison of Amherst, Treasurer West Proctor and Secretary Steve Morgan both of Grand Island. An ambitious calendar of events is scheduled for the Lodge, including a family picnic on August 13, “9-11” Memorial Service on September 10 and participation in a statewide Masonic Rededication on September 19.
   Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge meets on the first and third Tuesdays from late September thru early June at the Sweethome Masonic Hall, 641 Sweethome Road. Membership is open to men who believe in a supreme being and are over 21 years of age. The Masons help build character through acts of friendship, morality and brotherly love. Masonic philanthropies generate more than $2 million in charitable donations each day in the United States.

DeMolay Leadership Change - 2006
   (Lackawanna, NY May 2006). . . Ridge Council Chapter, Order of DeMolay has elected and installed a new leadership team. Advancing to the position of Master Councilor for the next six months will be Bill Koller of Grand Island. An avid Hockey player, he previously served the chapter in several leadership chapter positions. He will be assisted by Senior Councilor, Nick Kaczmarek of Orchard Park and Brian DeNormand of Grand Island.
   DeMolay utilizes local chapters as a "laboratory" setting for members to learn leadership skills, public speaking, time and financial management. In addition to these skills, DeMolay offers an expansive social and athletic program. Over 30,000 young men in the United States actively participate in DeMolay chapters today and well over one million men have benefited from the DeMolay experience since it was founded in 1919. Famous Senior DeMolays include Walt Disney, Gary Collins, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite and Fran Tarkenton.
   Ridge Council Chapter meets twice monthly in Lackawanna and also conducts weekly events that are social, athletic and community oriented.

Ridge Council Chapter, Order of DeMolay Elects Islanders - 2005
An election of leadership positions was held Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Ridge Council Chapter, Order of Demolay. Rob Sugar, 18 and Billy Koller, 14, of Grand Island were elected Senior and Junior Councilor, respectively. New Master Councilor is Joe Dombrowski, 15, of Tonawanda. The Chapter selected Miss Michele Eggert of North Tonawanda as Chapter Sweetheart. A public installation of officers will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2005 at 692 Ridge Road, Lackawanna. A dinner and reception will follow.

31st Annual Masonic Lodge Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast - 2005
The Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge will hold its 31st annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast at the Buffalo Launch Club from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20, 2005. Cost is $4 and includes pancakes, sausages, orange juice, milk and coffee.

Ridge Council Chapter DeMolay Elects Officers - 2004
   Election of officers was held at the Ridge Council Chapter, Order of DeMolay semiannual meeting October 7, 2004. Elected to the leadership of Ridge Council for the ensuing term from November 2004 thru April 2005 were: Master Councilor Abram Morgan (Grand Island), Senior Councilor Joe Dombrowski (Tonawanda) and Junior Councilor Robert Sugar (Grand Island). Elected Chapter Sweetheart was Jordi McMullen (North Tonawanda).
   Following the meeting, members and their guests, including an assembly of young ladies from Starlight Constellation, Bulah Walter Constellation, and Cassiopeia Triangle along with their supervisors, enjoyed fellowship, pop and pizza. Ridge Council has grown in the past six months with five new members from Cheektowaga, Depew and Grand Island. Currently Western New York also has a DeMolay chapter in Cheektowaga and one being formed in Kenmore.
   Ridge Council Chapter Order of DeMolay is a Masonic youth group sponsored by Lackawanna Masonic Lodge. DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives. DeMolay opens doors for young men aged 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.
   DeMolays, Senior DeMolays and interested Master Masons are welcome to attend DeMolay meetings at Ridge Council which are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Lackawanna Masonic Hall, 692 Ridge Road in Lackawanna. There will be a public installation of officers at the Lackawanna Masonic Temple, 692 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, on October 30th at 7 p.m. Refreshments and a dance will follow.

Island Youths Join Ridge Council Chapter Order of DeMolay - 2004
   Grand Island residents Rob Sugar, Brian DeNormand and Billy Koller have become members of Ridge Council Chapter, Order of DeMolay, an international organization for young men age 12 to 21. Demolay utilizes local chapters as a "laboratory" setting for members to learn leadership skills, public speaking, time management and financial management. In addition to these skills, DeMolay offers an expansive social and athletic program.
   DeMolay chapters also work to become community assets through programs of community service. Each year, DeMolay chapters throughout the world undertake thousands of community service projects.
   Over 30,000 young men in the United States actively participate in DeMolay chapters today and well over one million men have benefited from the DeMolay experience since it was founded in 1919. Famous Senior DeMolays include Walt Disney, Gary Collins, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite and Fran Tarkenton.

Islanders Complete DeMolay Advisor Education Sessions - 2004
   Ridge Council DeMolay’s Chapter Advisor Steve Morgan recently hosted a day of training for prospective DeMolay advisors at the offices of Contour Financial Planning on Whitehaven Road. Mr. Morgan, from Grand Island and John Leszak of Blasdell, conducted the two-part class for Grand Islanders Bill and Fay Wood and Dave DeNormand.
   The morning session consisted of the DeMolay Advisor Development (DAD) program. It provides the prospective advisors with the background necessary for a "quick start" in working with DeMolay. It introduces DeMolay's aims and methods and the skills and traits DeMolay is looking for in its advisors and volunteer adult workers. Also included in the DAD program is education on youth protection. Candidates also participated in the Producing Effective and Efficient Master Councilors (PEEMC) program. The program provides a background on commitment to excellence and outlines the term planning, activity planning and development of young men within DeMolay.
   DeMolay, an organization for active young men, provides the opportunity to have fun, learn, and lead while making friends. DeMolay members conduct their own meetings and plan their own activities. Starting in 1919 from a group of nine teenagers in Kansas City, DeMolay has spread to all fifty states and nine countries. DeMolay is named for Jacques DeMolay, who fought in the Crusades and lost his life because of his loyalty to his fellow Crusaders.
   All levels of the DeMolay advisor training are open to potential advisors, parents, adult volunteers and Senior DeMolays. 34th Annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast Presented By Masonic Lodge - 2004
The Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge will hold its 34th annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast at the Buffalo Launch Club from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 4. The original Grand Island Lodge #1138, merged in 1998 with the Eggertsville Lodge, started the pancake breakfasts in 1974 as a fund raising event to support the operation of the Masonic Temple on Ferry Road, Grand Island. The building was sold in 1998, and proceeds are now used to support various Western New York charities. Nationally, the Masonic Fraternity provides over $1 million in charitable contributions every day.

“Let There Be Light” . . . DeMolay Style - 2004
   Ridge Council Chapter met on March 16, 2004 for the purpose, of among other things, of holding its semiannual election of officers. Elected to the leadership of Ridge Council for the summer term in 2004 were: Master Councilor Phil Leszak (Blasdell), Senior Councilor Abe Morgan (Grand Island) and Junior Councilor Joe Dombrowski (Tonawanda). The Chapter Sweetheart will be Miss Michelle Whipkey (Kenmore).
   The meeting was also notable by the list of visitors for the evening which included two brothers and five advisors from the newly formed Cheektowaga Chapter, Worshipful Bob Chapman and members of Lackawanna Lodge, and an assembly of young ladies from Starlight Constellation and Cassiopeia Triangle along with their supervisors. Visiting Ridge Council for the first time was the Niagara Division Governor, Dad Parsons, who has recently been appointed to the position by Deputy Executive Officer, Walter Kinnin.
   In addition to the visitors, elections and normal order of business, the mood of the evening was enhanced by a power outage that started shortly before the meeting time of 7 p.m. Undaunted, the members and visitors rallied together, assembled in the chapter room and held the meeting by candlelight. The normal seven candles of a DeMolay chapter were given assistance for additional candles East, West, South at the scribe’s station and with the Chapter Advisor.
   Borrowing from some DeMolay writings, is was noted by the new Division Governor at the end of the meeting: “The light from these candles permeated this chapter room and the members and guests of Ridge Council Chapter certainly let their light shine before men and glorify their father, who is in heaven this evening.”
   The meeting was adjourned and the members and guests enjoyed fellowship, pop and pizza from an eatery across the street – which, obviously, had no electrical problems.

Abe Morgan To Present In Amherst - 2004
   Grand Island High School Freshman Abe Morgan is slated to present the DeMolay Ceremony of Light on Monday, March 22, 2004 at 8 p.m. at Sweethome Masonic Center, 641 Sweethome Road in Amherst. The Ceremony of Light is a presentation that explains the principals of the Order of DeMolay. The bible, schoolbooks and American flag represent the bulwarks of the young men’s group and seven burning candles represent the cardinal virtues of DeMolay. The Ceremony of Light is a lovely presentation and can have great impact.
   Additionally, Phil Leszak, a Junior at Frontier High School in Hamburg will present the DeMolay Flower Talk. The Flower Talk is a presentation the focuses on the most cherished and sacred love in any man's love, the love of his mother. This talk pays tribute to the unwavering spirit and never ceasing love of our mothers and is very moving.

   Grand Island, New York - Wesley Proctor of Monica Drive, Grand Island has been elected to serve as Master of Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge #1138 F & AM 2003-2004. Other Lodge leaders elected for the coming year were Senior Warden Robert Martinsen of Buffalo, and Junior Warden David DeNormand of Grand Island. Re-elected to a three-year-term as Trustee was Bill Good of Huth Road, Grand Island. John Harbison of Eggertsville will join Mr. Good on the Board of trustees.

   Ridge Council DeMolay, which meets at the Lackawana Masonic Temple, recently conducted an induction ceremony. The new DeMolays included Abe Morgan from Grand Island (whos parents met through DeMolay), Zachary Olmstead of Buffalo and John Perez from Cheektowaga. Ridge Council meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

For the 28th year in a row, the Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge held its Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast at the Buffalo Launch Club. Started in 1974, the pancake breakfast originally was used as a fund raising event to help support the operation of the Masonic Temple on Grand Island. District Deputy Grand Master To Visit Masons
The Right Worshipful David E. Otteni has announced that he will make his annual Official Visit to Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge on Tuesday evening, October 2, 2001. The Lodge will open at the Sweet Home Masonic Hall at 7:30pm. During the evening, the District Deputy and his staff will provide information on Grand Lodge activities, events and charities. Additionally, information will be provided on the Grand Masters plan for the future of the fraternity and, most certainly, how Masons have helped during the recent events in New York City. Masons Contribute $1,000,000
Carl J. Smith, Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York, announced today that the Grand Lodge in conjunction with the Trustees of the Masonic Hall and Home have contributed One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) to a fund to be used exclusively to aid and assist the families of the members of the New York City Police Department, New York City Fire Department, EMS personnel and employees of the Port Authority of the State of New York and New Jersey who lost their lives in the attack upon the New York World Trade Center. Grand Master Smith urges all Masons in the State of New York, as well as Masons throughout the United States to add to this fund by their personal contributions. The contributions should be sent to:

Masonic Square & Compasses Find New Home

W:. John Gast Jr., stands proudly by the monument crafted by his father in 1978.

Members of the Masonic Fraternity were on hand to witness the placement of a five-foot high square and compasses at the Masonic Building at the Erie County Fairgrounds. The square and compasses were hand crafted in 1978 by the late Bro. John Gast Sr. of Contractor’s Welding. After an Independence Day Parade debut that year, members erected the monument on the front lawn of the Grand Island Masonic Temple. After twenty years, the building was sold and the monument was returned to Con-Weld for refurbishing. A teamwork effort of Erie County Fair Staff, Grand Lodge Officers, First Erie District Staff, and Lodge members made the placement at the newly designated Masonic Building possible. Fair staff estimates that at least 1 million fair-goers pass-by the monument annually and help bring attention to the activities of the Fraternity. On Wednesday, August 15, 2001 Grand Master of Masons, Carl J. Smith presided over a dedication ceremony for the monument and a newly installed chair lift which was provided by the Grand Lodge. The chair lift, which makes the building handicapped accessible, will assist all people in gaining access to the activities in the building, including educational programs and the Masonic Child Identification Program.

The Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge will hold its annual family picnic Saturday, August 18, 2001 starting at noon. This year’s picnic will be held at the Sandy Beach Park Club on Grand Island. For further information and reservations, please call Steve Morgan at 773-0967.

   "Hands Across The Water" Golf Tourney
   The Eggertsville-Grand Island Lodge #1138 F & AM will present its annual Hands Across the Border Golf Tourney Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the Rothland Golf Course, 12089 Clarence Center Road, Akron, New York. First tee off is at 1 p.m. The tournament is open to all Masons, their friends and families.
   Eighteen holes with cart, beverages, cash bar for liquor, lunch before tee off, steak dinner and prizes for all are included in the $55 fee.

   Masons Elect Third-Generation Master
   Members of the Eggertsville-Grand Island Masonic Lodge, at their May 15, 2001, meeting, elected Steven L. Morgan as Master for the coming year. Steve follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and uncle, all of whom have held the same office in their lodges. An installation of officers will be held on Tuesday, June 5, at 8 p.m., followed by a reception, live music and dancing at the Sweethome Masonic Temple, 641 Sweethome Road, near Sheridan Drive. The public is welcome.
   Freemasonry teaches the universal principle of unselfish friendship and promotes those moral precepts which are in keeping with all great faiths. Friendship, morality and brotherly love bring lodge members together for self-improvement and community service.
