Grand Island High School will hold its forty-first Commencement Exercises at Kleinhan's Music Hall at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006.
The program will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Janice Sturtz, vice president of the Class of 2006. Class President Breanne DeMarco will welcome the graduates, their families and friends. A congratulatory address will be given by Dr. Thomas M. Ramming, Superintendent of the Grand Island Central School District.
Class speakers will be the top three academically ranked students. Katharine Rogers ranks first in the Class of 2006 and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been involved in the International Club, Masterminds, and History Club. She has earned varsity letters in women's
lacrosse, as well as soccer. She plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute majoring in chemical engineering. She is the daughter of Mrs. Karen Rogers and the late Harrison Rogers of Grand Island.
Chelsea DeGlopper ranks second in the Class of 2006. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. She has participated in concert band, wind ensemble, and jazz band. In addition, She has been an active member of DECA and “Relay for Life.” Chelsea plans to attend the University of Rochester to study English with a career goal of journalism. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. DeGlopper of Grand Island.
Ranking third in the Class of 2006 is Kevin Sobol. Kevin is a member of the National Honor Society. He has been an active member of Choir, Concert Choir, and All-County Chorus. Kevin plans to attend Canisius College majoring in biology. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sobol of Grand Island.
Military and Employability Portfolio Recognition will be presented by Dr. James R. Dempsey, principal of the high school. Recipients of the Grand Island High School scholarships and awards will be presented by Mr. William Miller, assistant principal, and will receive their awards from Dr. Ramming.
Musical interludes will be performed by the high school choir and Madrigals under the leadership of Mrs. Carolyn Lokken, and the band, conducted by Mr. Martin T. Allen.

High School PTSA Academic Awards Night - 2006
The PTSA Academic Awards Night was held Thursday, May 25, 2006 in the Grand Island High School auditorium when honor roll students from all four grades received Certificates of Excellence, Academic Pins, Academic Letters or Academic Bars.
PTSA President Terry Endres gave the introduction and Dr. Karen Karmazin, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum/Instruction also spoke.

A Grand Island High School band concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in the high school auditorium. The GIHS band is under the direction of music teacher Marty Allen.
