Island Presbyterian Church is proud to present two new additions to the IPC Peach Festival this Saturday: Marc Scibilia and the Erie County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit; a portion of the proceeds benefit GI resident, Blake Kenney.
Marc Scibilia, a beloved Grand Islander will provide his hometown with a special performance at the 3rd annual IPC Peach Festival. Marc recently debuted his newest album, “Fixity,” at Club Infinity in Williamsville. Marc Scibilia, a past winner of the Kiss 98.5 “Buffalo Idol” contest, recorded the album in Nashville, Tennessee. With lyric and vocal styles like Bob Dylan and the piano sensibilities of Billy Joel, "Fixity" has an overall finish of progressive piano rock and houses an impressive gamut of musical and lyrical depth, as seen in the polarities between "Lift Up Your Eyes", be stirringly performed in Hebrew, and "Pretty Good Guy", best performed in a pub. For more information, visit
www.marcsmusic.com or www.marcscibilia.com
Erie County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit - on site demonstration. Currently the Erie County Sheriff’s Office has one trained dual purpose K-9, Patrol & Narcotics dog named Bosco who is a 5-year-old German Shepherd. He was trained to the level of Schutzhund 3 with a FH 1 Tracking Title in Germany and received his narcotics training in the United States at a local training kennel.
Bosco is trained in area & building searches, criminal apprehension, tracking, crowd control, officer protection and drug detection. Bosco works with federal, state and local police agencies, the FBI, DEA, State Police and Town and Village Police Departments. The K-9 Drug Awareness Program for middle and high school evolved as a result of having this specialized dog. For more information on the K-9 Unit, visit www.erie.gov.

3rd Annual Peach Festival At Island Presbyterian Church - 2007

The Island Presbyterian Church, 1822 Huth Road, will present its 3rd Annual Peach Festival Saturday, August 18th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit local Grand Island resident.
IPC has successfully brought back the Peach Festival long remembered by Grand Island residents from their childhood. The focal point is “Anything and everything Peach” from the now famous “Little Old Church Ladies” and features peach pies and shortcake and the many cookies and bake goods. The festival promises to have a little something for everyone: Bounce House, Cotton Candy, Helium Balloons and Carnival Games for the kids as well as a Silent Auction (many items donated by local merchants), Flower Bulbs and Crafts for sale, and Health & Safety information for the adults. Special guests include the Grand Island Fire Company, and Band “404”.
Each year IPC donates a portion of the Peach Festival proceeds to the community as part of the church’s mission. Past years donations have been made to the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation, the SPCA, and Meaghan Grotz. This year IPC is grateful and most honored to be able to provide Blake Kenney with a portion of the 3rd Annual Peach Festival proceeds.
"Blake Kenney first came to us like a baby left on the church doorstep; a letter was left in the church mail box over Christmas asking us to pray for Blake, a 4 ½ years old little boy who lived on Staley Road."
Here is his story as told by his Aunt Melissa: On Christmas Eve 2006 Blake became sick. We all thought it was just excitement for Santa; however he was still vomiting on Christmas morning. After a day of tests and procedures at Buffalo Women’s & Children’s Hospital, we were told on Christmas night that Blake had a cancerous tumor. The next day Blake was taken in for surgery, removing his kidney, a portion of his lung along with a tumor the size of a football. Blake was diagnosed with a stage 4 tumor. At Roswell he underwent eight days of radiation and weekly Chemotherapy treatments at Children’s starting on January 2, 2007. We hope that after tests this month that Blake’s cancer is in remission. His treatment will continue with checkups every three months thereafter.
Blake has a mischievous smile and eyes that twinkle when he is being silly. He also loves his family and friends. He loves to work on art projects such as painting sun catchers and magnets, making sand art and coloring pictures. He likes bouncing in bounce houses and trying to play video games with his brother. He wants to be everything when he grows up from a doctor to a fireman to the man who runs the movies in the movie theater. His answer depends on the day and his mood.
Blake will be turning 5 this September and is looking forward to starting kindergarten at Sidway. He loves to play with his big brother, Brendan, and his baby sister, Brooke. He loves to be outside playing in the yard, jumping on the trampoline and playing construction worker with all of his Tonka trucks. He loves to go fishing with his dad and brother. He is the strongest little boy I have ever met. He does not let his illness stop him. Some times he will ask “why do people say I’m sick?–I’m not!”
Come and Join Us for a piece of fresh Peach Pie or Shortcake, great fun and fellowship for kids of all ages, and most importantly a chance to help a local Grand Islander, Blake Kenney!
Anyone interested in participating in IPC Peach Festival is asked to call Cathy Danahy at 716-228-8201 (c), or email to markdanahy@earthlink.net
