Mary Haggerty New Kaegebein Principal - June 2009

The recent announcement of the retirement of William Kaegebein Elementary School’s current principal, John Wiertel, has created a vacancy with the Grand Island Central School District’s administration team. After carefully considering the needs of both Kaegebein and Huth Road Elementary, as well as the District, school, Superintendent Robert Christmann has announced the reassignment of Mary Haggerty, current principal at Huth Road Elementary School, to the open vacancy as principal of Kaegebein.
“Mrs. Haggerty has done an excellent job at Huth Road Elementary School. Like Mr. Wiertel, she, too, demonstrates a true love of children and possesses strong leadership qualities. She has had a significant impact on student achievement at Huth Road. Along with Kaegebein, Huth Road has been ranked one of WNY’s best elementary schools,” states Superintendent Christmann.
The date the change will take effect is undetermined at this time but will begin during summer break. Mr. Wiertel will remain with the school district temporarily on a part-time basis to assist with providing a seamless transition.
A new principal search is currently underway to replace Mrs. Haggerty at Huth Road Elementary School and the District hiring team expects to have someone in place early this summer.
