Snowmobilers Invited to Join Club, Importance of Banding Together Noted
January 30, 2003 . . . The Grand Island Snowmobile Club sent out a mailing this month to prospective members urging them to consider joining the Island's Snowmobile Club. Faced with the recent state insurance coverage problems, the membership of the Island club feels that it is important for snowmobilers to be counted and band together to be heard. Snowmobile trails were closed when the paid for insurance policies were found to be inadequate to cover the landowners who allow members and non-members to cross their property while riding snowmobiles on the trails.
Grand Island is fortunate to have a very well organized snowmobile club whose members have groomed approximately 25 miles of trails on the Island. Numerous club events are scheduled throughout the winter and all interested snowmobilers are invited to apply for membership. The club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month (September-March) at the Grand Island Moose Lodge on Grand Island Blvd. Membership fee is $20 per year and covers a family membership. For complete information, click Snowmobile Club Website.
DISREGARD! Snowmobile Trails Closed
January 9, 2003 . . . The Grand Island Snowmobile Club has temporarily closed snowmobile trails
on Grand Island. According to Hal Fleischman, president of the Island Club, all but a few snowmobile clubs have closed their trails in New York State
as a result of problems with club trail insurance policies. The New York
State Snowmobile Association is working with NYS Parks and Recreation, the Governor's
office and the NYS Insurance Dept. to rectify the situation. Trails
throughout the state will remain closed until further notice. For further imformation and updates visit the NYSSA Website.
