West River Tree Planting Project 2002
Members of the West River Homeowners Association have taken on a Parkway enhancement project. The directors of theHomeowners group recently voted to start this riverfront beautification project, with the first phase to be located at the end of Whitehaven Road between the West River Parkway and the Niagara River. The area to be used is about 90 feet long in a gentle curve about 25 feet wide. In no way will the planting obstruct the view of the river and it should create a natural and inviting look all year long. An assortment of flowering and weeping Crab Apple trees, with a maximum height of about 20 feet, are to be planted. The spring blooming period will produce an abundance of white, pink and red blossoms and colourful fruit in the fall. In addition, the WRHA will plant several varieties of Dogwood with variegated foliage and red or yellow bark in the winter. Referring to the project this week, Director Dave Davis said, "This is "our" Parkway and the vista is an extension of our living room. Let us work together to make it truly a thing of enduring beauty for today and years to come."
