The Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial VFW Post 9249 has purchased three televisions for the Veterans Hospitals in WNY. These specially designed televisions are for the use of the infirmed patients at their bedside. Most TVs in the hospital are over 10 years old making repairs very difficult if not impossible as there are no replacement parts. As a result, the VA has asked for donations to help replace some of the older sets. Two of the TVs are for Veterans Hospital in Buffalo and another will be going to the recently opened combined Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Women's Residential Program (WRP) facility in Batavia. During the presentation, Mark Francis and Dennis Heberling stated the TVs will go a long way to provide some comfort and enjoyment to the Veterans and thanked the Post for the donation.

Tuesday, May 2, 2006 . . .Today is a very significant day for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial VFW Post 9249 along with the VFW Post and its Men's Auxiliary. Today marks the 100th consecutive week the Post has shipped a CARE package to an area service man or woman stationed overseas. Through the leadership of Liane Dahlberg, a CARE package has been shipped each and every week for the past 99 weeks. The Post and auxiliaries have sent CARE packages for several years under different coordinators and sometimes obtaining names and addresses has been a difficult job. Lee, who has been able to send a CARE Package to individual service personnel for 100 weeks, has worked very hard to obtain a new address for her weekly shipment. The VFW Post #9249 also expresses appreciation to Mary Becker for her assistance with the program, along with the Grand Island DAV Chapter #168, the Grand Island American Legion Post #1346 and the VFW's Operation UpLink for their donations of money and/or items for these CARE packages. Clothing, toiletries, skin care products, and paper and pens are just some of the items being sent each and every week. "There is often a very special gift and a personal note packed in the box, just to say thank you," VFW Commander Dan McMahon said today. "Our effort will continue as long as there are service personnel in harms way anywhere in the world," he said.
